“How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world that has such people in’t! (V, i, 184-186)
Miranda hadn’t seen many people in her lifetime and when she does, she exaggerates their presence and romanticizes the situation. When the first group of people come to her sight, she says “How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world that has such people in’t!” (V, i, 184-186), and this represents her love for humans and their presence. This reflects on one of the morals of the play, which is how life-depending situations bring out the true human nature in everyone. She seems to be very caring and empathetic, whereas this quote also represents this. She does not reject the others at first as others would do, she accepts them because they are in the same place as she is. Mirandas heart is pure as others are not because some would have planned to hurt the others for power or rejected them for their own safety, or hurt them in fear. I believe that this quote really brings out one of the morals of the play about true human nature because Miranda represents the pureness of human nature while contrasting the others at the same time. Humans will act according to the pressure of society, but Miranda fights it and brings out her kind heart. Shakespeare includes her kind heart to show all sides of humanity, not just the brutal side that is very capable of betrayal.
